THE winners of this year’s Venus Awards in Dorset have been announced.

Dubbed the ‘Working Women’s Oscars’, there were a record-breaking number of nominations this year across 15 categories, with an impressive 5,962 votes cast in the public vote categories.

The winners were unveiled and given their awards in front of 400 guests at a glitzy ceremony held in Poole on Friday last week.

Held for the sixth year in a row, the Venus Awards were launched to recognise and celebrate the role of women in business and the business community.

Darren Northeast of Northeast PR, the official PR firm behind the awards, said: “It was a really fantastic evening.

“I hadn’t realised just how big it was going to be this year, surely the biggest Venus event ever.”

Dr. Linda Eve of Evenlines and one of the finalists for the awards, said she had enjoyed the evening.

She said: “I get invited to the top Aesthetics Awards in London and the Venus Awards are every bit as good.”

In the Dutton Gregory Small Business Award, Michelle Cheeseman and her firm Munchkins Play Café were crowned winners.

Gill Donnel, from Successful Women Ltd, scooped first prize in the Breeze Volkswagen Influential Woman Award. In the Tigerlilly Nails New Business Award, Oxana Ruckhaver from Minster Designs Bridal Boutique was crowned the winner.

Emma Willis, from Shine Cancer Support, won the Bournemouth University Inspirational Woman Award, with the Desixn Digital Media and Online Business Award going to Tara Mussel from Ratio.

Tara also won the Kier Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Barbara Cox, from Nutrichef/BC Nutrition Ltd, won the Stewarts Garden Centre Lifetime Achievement Award, with Barbare Fowler from MyBabyLog Ltd crowned the Playgolf Bournemouth Networker of the Year.

In the Exterion Media Marketing and PR Award, Sharon Canning from Move On Rentals was awarded first place, and the SMARt Accountancy Business of the Year Award was given to Lisa Delahunty from Waste Management Facilities Ltd.

Annette D’Abreo, of Ceuta Healthcare, won the Enhanced Director of the Year Award, and The Rubicon Recruitment Employer of the Year Award was given to Russell Warren.

In the Gem of England Customer Service Award, Lisa Pierson from Moving Forward was crowned the winner, and the Bournemouth Echo Mother of the Year Award was given to Julie Cook-Hughes from SOS recruitment.

Finally, Caroline Swaine from InXpress UK Ltd was given the Heart Employee of the Year Award For more about the awards and details about next year’s event, visit venusawards.co.uk/dorset.
